About Us
Paiva Farms is basically two separate entities. James M. Paiva and Paiva Hulling & Shelling, Inc., and as of 2004, Mr. Paiva is part owner of Riverwest Processing, Inc.
Jim Paiva farms and manages almond, prune and walnut crops for landowners as well as his own personal properties. From late August through September, his farming operation is contracted by many area farmers to harvest their almond crop and truck the product to Paiva Hulling & Shelling for processing.
Paiva Hulling & Shelling services more than 200 growers within a 120 mile radius of the plant. In 2004, we hulled 82.2 million pounds of field run and shipped out 13.7 million pounds of inshell and 14.25 million pound of meats to the growers selected Processor/Handler.
Our focus is to consistently produce a quality product for the grower. We strive to deliver to the processor/handler product with less than one percent foreign material and that translated into more money for the grower. Our ultimate goal is to maintain a lasting relationship with our growers and continue to add to our customer base.
Annual reinvestment and modernization of the huller and sheller operation are key to ensuring continued growth within the industry. Another challenge is to develop active markets for the sale of almond hull and shell. We work closely with brokers to achieve a healthy market for this by-product.
Weather is always the critical factor for farming and the one least in our control. Consequently, in both farming and in our hulling and shelling operations, we try to keep costs as low as possible and still produce a quality product.
